About The VMT Mentor Professional Development

These courses and curriculum will help you be a great mentor for startup founders and small business owners.

Thank you for volunteering to be a VMT mentor and for generously giving your time and expertise to help others achieve business success, just like you have in your lifetime! Your contribution makes a difference.

You were accepted into the VMT because of your altruistic motivation, background, experience, collaborative skills, and quest for lifelong learning. The objectives of the VMT Professional Development Courses are to demonstrate how we mentor in teams, provide entrepreneurial mentoring best practices, and sharpen your knowledge on topics important to startup founders and small business owners.

These courses were written, created, and produced by VMT mentors for VMT mentors. We train and certify mentors to ensure we have the necessary knowledge and skills and are prepared to work together as highly-effective mentoring teams.

This first course, “Welcome to the VMT”, will prepare you to jump in and start mentoring right away. In this course, we will discuss

  • VMT fundamentals and how mentors work together
  • the various types of mentor meetings
  • mentoring skills
  • why startups fail
  • the Lean Launchpad and How to Build a Startup

After you have completed the course work in this course, we invite you to attend our workshop, “Getting Started Mentoring”, which we conduct on a monthly schedule. After completing this workshop, you are encouraged to attend mentor meetings and events and continue your mentor journey by taking additional mentor courses.

Also, upon completing this course and the Getting Started Mentoring Workshop, you will receive your first VMT badge.  {VMT Mentor Badge Here it is located in the Media Library}

Earn additional VMT badges by completing the other mentor courses.  The Startup Pitch Deck and Mentoring Small Business courses each conclude with a Workshop.  These workshops are offered every other month on a rotating basis. Consult the VMT Event Calendar to find the dates and times that they are offered. The other courses can be completed completely online and on your own schedule. The courses can be taken in any order.

You will earn your VMT Certified Mentor badge upon earning all of the VMT badges required for VMT mentor certification and completing your first 20 hours of team mentoring.
