Business-Model Design

Business Model Generation

Alexander Osterwalder and Yves Pigneur

The VMT Review

This book introduced the Business Model Canvas to a broad audience. Its visual structure is highly useful for team discussion and for making assumptions visible. Its weakness is that founders sometimes complete the canvas as though they were documenting established facts rather than hypotheses. Strategyzer describes the book as a systematic approach to understanding, designing, and differentiating business models.

What the Reader Will Learn

Founders learn to examine customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, resources, activities, partners, and costs as one interconnected system. Mentors can use the canvas to identify contradictions, missing roles, and assumptions requiring evidence.
