One Minute Mentoring: How to Find and Work With a Mentor and Why You’ll Benefit from Being One

Ken Blanchard and Claire Diaz-Ortiz

The VMT Review — Mentors and Founders library

One Minute Mentoring offers a short and approachable introduction to forming and maintaining a mentoring relationship. Its MENTOR framework addresses mission, engagement, networking, trust, opportunity, and review. The book emphasizes that effective mentoring requires intention and mutual responsibility. The model is primarily designed around one-to-one mentoring and therefore does not fully reflect VMT's team-based methodology. It should be presented as a source of basic relationship principles, not as a description of the VMT process.

What the reader will learn

Readers will learn how to establish expectations, build trust, identify mentoring objectives, create opportunities for learning, and periodically review the relationship. VMT mentors can adapt these principles to team mentoring while preserving VMT's confidentiality, conflict-of-interest, and collaboration requirements.
