The Mom Test
The VMT Review
This is one of the shortest and most practically useful books on customer interviews. It explains why customers offer compliments and speculative encouragement, and how founders inadvertently ask questions that produce misleading answers. Its simplicity is its strength, although it does not replace deeper market research or quantitative validation.
What the Reader Will Learn
Founders learn to talk about the customer’s life rather than the founder’s idea, ask about specific past behavior, investigate current workarounds and spending, seek commitment, and avoid pitching prematurely. Mentors can use the book to improve founders’ interview guides and recognize weak evidence disguised as enthusiastic feedback.
