The Startup Owner’s Manual
The VMT Review
This is more detailed and operational than The Lean Startup. It functions almost as a textbook for Customer Development and provides concrete guidance for testing customer, problem, channel, revenue, and business-model hypotheses. Its length and density can intimidate founders, and some technology examples reflect an earlier startup environment. Nevertheless, its core logic remains highly valuable.
What the Reader Will Learn
The book teaches founders to separate customer discovery from customer validation, create explicit business-model hypotheses, get outside the building, and search for repeatable customer acquisition before scaling execution. Mentors will find it particularly valuable for structuring questions around users, buyers, payers, channels, pricing, and evidence.
